Privacy and Tracking On The Web

On the last episode of Face Rockin’, we announced what’s going to be the topic of discussion in this upcoming Monday’s episode: Privacy and Tracking On The Web.

If you have an opinion on the topic, post it on Facebook, Twitter, or in the comments section below and it’ll be included with your name/handle in this Monday’s episode of Face Rockin’ in a text graphic. Or you can upload a video to YouTube of yourself explaining your thoughts and send it to our YouTube inbox, and it could be chosen to appear in the show in a fan video segment.

Here’s the topic explained in detail:

There are all kinds of web applications, search engines, and web browsers that you trust with your information (even if you don’t know it) and in return they provide you with some form of service. But is it worth it? Could Google ever sell your private information to a third-party advertising company? Will Facebook ever stop providing you with customizable privacy options? And what about tracking? Some sites will keep a history of your browsing information and use it to target you with the ads you’re most likely to click. And if you turn off these options, do you worry that maybe they’re still tracking you anyway? Or maybe there’s nothing to worry about because these companies would never shoot themselves in the foot by betraying customer trust like that. There are safeguards and laws that would keep corporations from doing anything dastardly to your private information and web-surfing habits.

So what do you think? What’s your opinion? Share it in the comments below or on Facebook or Twitter and we’ll include it in the show. Or upload a YouTube video stating your thoughts and send the link to our YouTube inbox and it might be chosen to appear in the show. The only requirements are that you keep your opinions concise and free of profanity and offensive content.
